Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel and Marshall County Community Corrections partnered today to help Marshall County residence in need of sandbags during this raining period and imminent threat of flooding.

Inmates from the Marshall County Jail were transported to the Marshall County Highway Dept. and supervised by Community Corrections Field Officers while they worked to fill hundreds of sandbags this afternoon. Sheriff Hassel stated that “during this period of flooding and my concern for County residents it only makes sense to have inmates from the Jail give back to the community they have taken from”.  Hassel went on to say, “the ongoing partnership with Community Corrections makes it possible for the inmates to get out of the Jail to provide service to the community”.

Marshall County Community Corrections Director Ward Byers stated, “collaborating with our criminal justice partners is essential to our mission, I am very pleased that my staff could be a part of helping protect Marshall County from the impending flood waters”.

Marshall County Emergency Management Director Clyde Avery reminds residents that the sandbags filled by the Jail Inmates are available for pick up at the Old Civil Defense Building next to the County Highway Garage on King Rd. Extra bags and sand are also at that location.
